2.20 Saturday Paddy Power Gold Cup
Ireland has not won the Paddy Power Gold Cup since 2009 and Lets Go Champ heads the Irish contingent for Henry de Bromhead in this year’s renewal. Currently around 12-1, this progressive sort won a Grade 3 Handicap at the Punchestown Festival in May off a featherweight having struggled on his previous run at Limerick on heavy ground. The better conditions will be in his favour on Saturday, he jumps well and looks to carry a nice weight of 10-2.
1.45 Saturday Paddy Power Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices' Chase (Grade 2)
Jordans looks to be on an upward curve for Joseph O’Brien and is a current 4-1 shot for this Grade 2. A four-time winner in his native France, the Coastal Path five-year-old finished second to stable companion San Salvador on his debut for current connections at Listowel. He then went on to claim a Grade 3 contest at Punchestown on only his second start in Ireland. Richie Deegan, who was in the saddle that day, feels he will improve again. The decent ground will also suit.
3.30 Sunday Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle
Emmet Mullins won the Greatwood Hurdle four years ago with The Shunter and he has two interesting entries in Sunday’s feature as he looks to target the contest once again.
Jacoven Cavern joined the yard from Paul Hennessy and has run twice on the Flat for Mullins over the summer, finishing second in a handicap at Galway before heading to Newmarket for the Cesarewitch where he finished down the field in 10th. He was running in Grade 1 company for his old yard, finishing 8th in the 2023 Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham and is towards the bottom of the handicap at current odds of 12-1.
Toll Stone, his stablemate, was placed a number of times in maidens last year for Ken Condon and, after making a successful switch to hurdles earlier this year, was having his first start in a Flat handicap at Galway in the summer where he duly scored. He sits at the bottom of the handicap and is another to watch at 16-1.
