Barry Geraghty was taken to hospital in Dublin after a fall at Downpatrick on Sunday.
The leading jockey was riding Sailors Warn for Edward O'Grady in the Visit toals.co.uk Rated Hurdle and still held every chance when the horse took a crashing fall at the second-last flight.
While Geraghty did not take up his ride in the following race, his injury was not thought to be serious, but later in the afternoon it was confirmed he was going to get his leg looked at.
The Irish Turf Club's chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick said: "He's either got bruising on the bone or a possible fracture."
Meanwhile, Davy Russell was due to undergo surgery on Sunday on a broken arm sustained in a fall at Gowran on Saturday.
The rider was aboard front-runner Feenakilmeedy in the Brian Cody & www.aclsurgery.ie Mares Beginners Chase when the pair crashed out at the third-last fence with Shuilamach, who was in behind, appearing to strike Russell before being brought down.
It was initially thought Russell had sustained a broken arm and leg, but Dr McGoldrick reports him to have sustained only an arm injury.
McGoldrick expects Russell to be sidelined for around six weeks, meaning he should be fit for action at the Punchestown Festival, which kicks off on April 28.
He said: "He's going to be operated on today. He's broken his left ulna, which is the smaller bone in his arm. It should hopefully be pretty straightforward and he will probably be off for about six weeks, so he should be back for Punchestown.
"His leg is absolutely fine though and with it being the ulna, it should be straightforward."
