After a treble last night in Dundalk, Michael Halford continued the winning thread in Limerick as Saltonstall showed a good turn of foot in the seven furlong juvenile maiden.

Shane Foley had the Godolphin colt in fifth sweeping round the home turn, before the pair made their move outside the two pole to tackle Pennsylvania approaching the final furlong.

Saltonstall showed his superiority in the closing stages as he drew a length and a quarter clear to justify 5/6 favouritism.

Pennsylvania (6/1) was five and a half lengths ahead of third-placed The Statesman (7/1).

Michael Halford said: "He's a smasher and is a gorgeous looking horse and has a lovely temperament.

"He travelled good, picked up well and probably got there a bit too soon and is still a bit green. He's a horse we like and will run next in the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown.

"He handles that ground but wouldn't necessarily need it by any means. He is so straightforward and it is only starting for him - there's more to come."

Saltonstall began his career in Naas last month when second in a seven furlong maiden.
