“She had great gate-speed, she jumped out lovely. She was travelling beautiful the whole way. It was only a matter of how far really,” summed up winning rider Nathan Crosse after capturing the opening Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Maiden at the Curragh on impressive Requinto filly Daughter In Law (10/1).
In the colours of Mrs Betty Murphy, mother of Danny, Daughter In Law could have hardly accomplished victory in any better style. From the front the two times previously raced juvenile beat the dead-heaters My Friend Stan and Glow Worm by three and a half lengths.
Former trainer Danny Murphy is now very much part of Kieran Cotter’s set-up. Cotter had previously sent out Daughter In Law to finish third at Dundalk and Naas.
Of course Cotter and Murphy grabbed the headlines with George Cornelius, so impressive on debut at Dundalk in April, and that fellow figures in the ante-post market for the Coventry at Royal Ascot.
“She's finally shown what she had been showing us early on in her preparations,” said Cotter.
“We thought going to Dundalk for her first run she only had to turn up and go but we met a smart filly of Willie (McCreery's).
“She's improved with every run and her form is stacking up all the time.
“She just has blistering speed and on the quick ground today it was a matter of getting her out, let her run and point and shoot. She's done the job very well.
“A fast five is what she wants, she has blinding speed and kept going.
“Conditions suited her today as well in an auction maiden as she had only 8-1 on her back and she made use of that. She made a lot of supposedly decent horses work.
“Back a month ago we were saying we were heading to the Queen Mary. It might be jumping things a bit too much but it's a possibility.
“We'll think about Ascot and there's a future for her anyway.”
The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. Hugh Hynes, that W.J. Lee, rider of Mogwli had weighed in at 1.1 lbs overweight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had not changed any equipment and did not rehydrate as he is always conscious of his weight.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that W.J. Lee was in breach of Rule 231 (iii) and cautioned him having taken his previous record into consideration.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Piece Of Paradise trained by J.A.Stack, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount raced green in the first furlong.
