The Shay Slevin trained Tabhachtach came out best in a tight finish to the Galway Bay FM Beginners Chase at Galway today, scoring under the handler's son Mark Slevin.
The son of Quws overcame a few untidy jumps in the race before moving to challenge in the straight. At the line, Tabhachtach (whose name means 'important' in Irish) had half a length to spare over The Great Shanghai (9/1 – 4/1), with a similar gap to the third placed Jack Cool
Afterwards Slevin Snr stated “I was a bit worried about the ground coming here but I'd now say that the ground was probably ideal in that it wasn't too deep.
“He ran well at Limerick the last day and this was just his second run over fences so he is entitled to improve. He is young, big and brave and jumps for fun and he may run in a novice next.”
