On his third start for Caroline Hutchinson, South Wing justified a little bit of support (12s into 10s) on track by taking the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap under Kieran O'Neill.
The winner, a six-year-old chestnut son of In The Wings, a three time winner in the past, led on the rail two furlongs out and he kept on well in a dual with Daggers Bond to triumph by three parts of a length.
A delighted Hutchinson said: "He had a great draw and Kieran gave him a super, positive ride. He'd been working well at home and it worked out on the racecourse. I should take up residence here as Wexford has been good to me over the years. The owners (the Up The Yard Syndicate) are from Leixlip and there are sixteen of them.
"We schooled the horse over drains (cross-country) and it really sweetened him up."
