Hughes continues good run

Dessie Hughes is enjoying a great time with his jumping team, and the Curragh handler extended his advantage as the winning-most National Hunt trainer so far this campaign by chalking up his 17th victory of the season when Sun Disc took the Smirnoff Maiden Hurdle.

Ian McCarthy 's mount headed Boxer Beat at the second last flight, and kept on well on the run-in to beat Peaks Of Fire (7/2 fav) by a length and a half.

Boxer Beat (9/2), having took up the lead around the halfway point, could find no extra after the penultimate hurdle finishing a further five and a half lengths back in third.

McCarthy (23), from Galway, was recording his fourth win of the season aboard the 7/1 chance and said: “She jumped super all the way. She's only a handy-sized mare but is tough and saw the trip out well.”
