Kiln Time showed plenty of promise when runner-up after a lengthy lay-off at Fairyhouse last week and went one better in division two of the Kehoe Farming Handicap Hurdle to complete a 64/1 Wexford double for rider Brian Hayes.
The Michael Bowe-trained 4/1 chance made most of the running in this 2m4f event and rallied gamely after being briefly joined by We’llgowats on the run-in.
A length and a quarter separated the pair at the line with Man River a further seven lengths away in third.
Bowe's brother and assistant trainer John said: "That was fantasic and all credit goes to Brian Hayes. He encouraged us to run here as we weren't sure about the track.
"He wants a stamina test, he wants three miles and heavy ground. He was off with an injury for two years.
"Everything Sweet Kiln has bred has won, Rock Road, Aunt Alice, Sweet Sting and now this fella. There is a few more coming along but the mare has passed away now.
"They were going to crawl and it was Brian's idea to make the running even though he is probably not a natural front runner.
"He was off of 86 there and it was only his second handicap. He might go to Tramore now on the 28th, there is a two-mile-five-furlong handicap for him there.
"We raced Millerina and she is out of Solerina. We sold Millerina to Joe Fitzgerald and he won the first (with Glorytogod Tom . I was talking to him today and I'm delighted for him. Our Uncle Jack won previously for him and he is out of Millerina as well."
Hayes initiated his double on Double Pink (12/1) in the mares hurdle.
