Teed Up progressed from a pair of runner-up finishes to land the J.F. Hanley Maiden in Roscommon for trainer Ken Condon.
Billy Lee's mount sat a close second to front-running Departmentalize at the halfway stage of this extended seven furlong contest.
The leader came under Gary Carroll's whip a furlong and a half down and was soon headed by Teed Up.
Teed Up was ridden by Chris Hayes to go for home, but he couldn't increase the narrow lead he held. He maintained the slight advantage from the rallying runner-up and came in by a head to justify 5/4 favouritism. The runner-up ran a good race at 20/1.
“He's a nice horse. He had two nice runs and he was entitled to do that,” said Chris Hayes.
“I jumped and thought if I got an easy lead I'd take it, but I knew Gary was keen so I said I'd get a tow off him.
“I went to take it off him a furlong-and-a-half out and it was lucky I didn't end up making the running because he just had a good look around.
“I think when he steps up in trip and in handicap company when he's able to get a tow, and ride a proper race on him, he'll be a nice horse.
“He handles that ground so they could have a nice autumn, into winter, campaign with him.”
The Stewards enquired into an incident about one furlong after the start involving Departmentalize, ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed second, Up With The Play ridden by W.T. Byrne, placed sixth and Breaking News ridden by K.J. Manning, placed third, where it appeared that Up With The Play checked off Departmentalize when that animal was tracking over to the rails. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by G.F. Carroll riding carelessly, this being a breach of Rule 214. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended G.F. Carroll for one race day.
