Wayne Hassett completed a near 33/1 double as Zephron took the Mongey Communications Handicap in runaway fashion at the Curragh.
The six-year-old gelding carries the colours of racecourse bookmaker Colm White and was popular in the market being supported from 10/1 overnight to go off a 13/2 chance.
The son of Ivawood has proved a grand servant to trainer Denis Cullen and recorded his fourth career win when stretching clear inside the final 150 yards to beat 4/1 favourite Blue Peak by six lengths. Mogwli was prominent throughout and kept on one paced a further length and a half away in third with Expressova completing the places in fourth.
Cullen said, “Myself and Colm have been friends for a long time and he’s probably been unlucky not to win three this year as he was unlucky in Listowel.
“He loves those conditions so I suppose we’ll give him a break now and see what happens next year.
“Early on this year my horses weren’t right and I suppose he’s handicapped himself but once he’s hit form he’s been consistent all the way through. He stays a mile and with the hike he’ll get for that might get into the Lincoln next year.”
Hassett was also on the mark earlier on the card aboard Kolachi and has ridden 19 winners this season.
