Hands-on owner/breeder Deegan delights in another Galway success It might be the Galway races but not as we know it, for owner Tony Deegan though the thrill of a winner at Ballybrit wasn’t diminished one bit. His Out On Friday followed up a course and distance win from July in the James P.Cunningham Electrical Handicap. Again with Colin Keane in the plate, the Masterofthehorse gelding bounced back from a Curragh 14th placing in the interim, to beat favourite Ideal Pal by two and a quarter lengths. With only a handful of people in the vast enclosure Deegan, who also bred the four-year-old, roared his pride and joy home. The victorious 4/1 second favourite was never far away before closing up over two furlongs out. Soon on terms he took over in the straight on the way to success. Portumna man Deegan was on lead-up duty in the aftermath and winning trainer Philip Byrne said: “Tony works with us at home and gives us a hand on race-days. It’s great for him.” (EM)
