Willie McCreery and Billy Lee notched a quick double at Clonmel this evening when Elm Grove ran out a cosy winner of the three-year-old plus handicap over just under ten furlongs.
The 7/2 shot travelled strongly to lead two furlongs out and was sent clear with over a furlong to run.
She could afford to ease up in the closing stages to post a comprehensive seven length success. 11/4 favourite Beechmount Whisper kept on to take the runner-up spot without looking a danger.
Elm Grove was striking for the second time this year having won in testing conditions on her seasonal debut at Cork early last month.
"I just thought she was so happy in the race and she travelled great. He had her in a lovely rhythm and she just tanked into the race.
"She just needs an ease but they have done a great job with the track. She can go on soft ground better than most horses but is she is older and stronger now.
"We'll keep mooching along and try and get black-type - John and Ita (Malone) bred her themselves and I'm delighted for them. A lot of people would have got rid of her but they are racing 40 years and they love racing and rarely miss a meeting."
