Golden Nugget may have been only rated 51 coming into the Racing Again At Sligo July 11th Maiden but that didn’t stop the chestnut battling to a head success under Seamie Heffernan.
The 25/1 chance was one of about four in with a chance in the straight but the three-year-old found most to see off the newcomer and fellow outsider Celtic Pageant (a 33/1 chance, Tote exacta paid 351.30).
Winning owner and trainer Flan Costello, a well-known Limerick publican said: “The mile two helped him and even though I thought he had a chance I didn’t back him.”
