Gary Noonan is enjoying a good spell in the saddle and the 7lbs claimer rode his fourth winner of the season aboard the 6/1 chance Glentruan in the Corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle (Div I).
The 6/5 favourite The Greek was left in front when Time Budget departed three out but the winner was soon on terms and asserted after the last to beat the market leader by two and a quarter lengths. Emily Roebling (9/4) stayed on to be a closing third a further head away.
The winning Getaway 6-year-old had a couple of unplaced runs in bumpers for Philip Hobbs when in the ownership of Trevor Hemmings before returning to Ireland to be trained by Paddy Neville in Askeaton. He was third in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown on his penultimate start.
“He ran in a good race the last day (8th at Leopardstown) and is a lovely horse who will hopefully make a lovely chaser,” said Neville.
"There's a lovely local syndicate involved in him.
"I have five or six mostly young horses for loyal owners but am struggling and finding it very hard, like everyone else. We can train them if we get them though.
"Hopefully things will pick up - we might get a few English owners!"
