Gilgamboa good on chase debut Gilgamboa looked a very smart chaser in the making as he made a winning debut over fences in the beginners chase at Navan this afternoon. Mark Walsh tracked the leader Blood Cotil on the 5/4 favourite before moving up smoothly to challenge two out. He went on over the last and recorded a length-and-a-half win over the front-runner. The Enda Bolger-trained gelding landed the valuable Boylesports.com Hurdle at Leopardstown last season and has always looked a chaser in the making. “You couldn't ask for much better. He has been schooling well and it's nice to get that out of the way,” said JP McManus' racing manager Frank Berry. “The first two jumped well and he was quick over his fences. He loves that ground, it's not too soft. Maybe not heavy but he'd handle most other things. “We'll try and find a winners of one for him. A step up in trip wouldn't bother him and we'll see what's around in the next few weeks.” Boylesports introduced the winner at 14/1 for the Arkle.
