The jumping of the some of the five participants in the Grade 3 Naas Directors Plate Novice Chase didn't always convince and a failure to negotiate the fences safely ultimately decided things in favour of Bright New Dawn This victory brought up a double for Gigginstown House Stud (also on the score-sheet at the 'point' in Lingstown) and Bryan Cooper as the Dessie Hughes-trained Bright New Dawn added to the earlier gains for the 'maroon and white' with Empire Of Dirt (Colm Murphy).
Paul Carberry, who had hit the turf in the previous heat off Quickpick Vic suffered the same feat here as Mullaghanoe River got rid of him with a mistake two out when there with every chance laying down a challenge to Bright New Dawn. Carberry was stood down for the day, reportedly a bit shaken up.
The victorious 8/11 favourite then kept up the gallop to see off Letter Of Credit by seven and a half lengths.
Hughes explained: "He was a bit free and he was taking a bit too much out of himself and the second horse is not too bad.
"He'll probably go for the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse and a bit better ground would be fine.
"He has no trouble getting two and a half miles but it was a bit tacky there." (AM & EM)
