Geerdharry notches second success Mauritius-born Yudish Geerdharry registered a second success today, steering Lake Illawarra (14/1) to lead home a 1-2 for his employer trainer Johnny Murtagh in Dundalk's View Restaurant Dundalk Apprentice Handicap. Geerdharry, who gained a high-profile first success on Murtagh's Wave Machine in November's Birdcatcher Nursery, steered Lake Illawarra to a half-length success over shorter-priced stablemate Malacanne (9/4f). Lake Illawarra runs for the Coolmore partnership of Westerberg/Magnier/Smith and Tabor and afterwards Geerdharry commented "the lads went strong in front and it would have suited her as she is a kind of one-paced filly. Coming into the straight, I started picking up a bit and she fought well to the end. “There is plenty of stamina in her pedigree and she would be finishing well. Johnny tried different things with her and it was the visor tonight, thank God it worked out today.” Geerdharry, whose first language is French, added “after getting my first winner it has been a bit slow but hopefully it is onwards and upwards now. Johnny has given me plenty of opportunities and I want to get a few outside rides too. "Johnny has been there and done it all, he's there with me after every race to tell me what I did wrong and what I could improve on. That's a very good school." Quotes from Michael Graham
