Andrew McNamara is setting the early pace at the head of the National Hunt Jockeys’ Championship, partnering his 12th winner of the new season, on Edward O’Grady’s Garlic Hill in the Summer BBQ Evening June 10th Maiden Hurdle, at Clonmel today.
The son of Milan made most but did benefit from the bad blunder of runner-up John The Soldier at the final flight, staying on well under pressure on the run-in, for a length and three parts win.
Afterwards O’Grady stated “Garlic Hill is my first winner for his English owners Sam & Carole Cooper – they have a place near Fethard and I’m delighted to train a winner for them.”
He added “Garlic Hill is a summer horse and should make a very nice chaser in time.”
