The Ger Lyons trained Exogenesis landed a gamble when taking the opener at Fairyhouse this evening, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden.
The son of Dark Angel was 8/1 this morning with Paddy Powers, opening on-course at 6s before being backed all the way into 3/1 joint favouritism at the off.
He finished last of seven on his debut at Leopardstown in April behind Focus On Venice and he was settled in mid-division in the early stages today under Gary Carroll.
He was ridden in sixth a furlong and a half from home, moving into third a furlong out, before soon hitting the front and keeping on strongly from there to record a comfortable three and a quarter length success.
The Johnny Murtagh trained newcomer, Pillow finished second under Niall McCullagh at 14/1 while Focussed was half a length back in third at 4/1 under Kevin Manning for Brendan Duke. Ealain Aibrean was sent off the other 3/1 joint favourite, but she could only manage a disappointing eighth under Pat Smullen for Dermot Weld.
Ger Lyons said of his Sean Jones owned winner; "He has been gelded since his first run, when he was very green and he is a nice horse.
"I haven’t had too many two-year-old runners so far and hopefully our patience with them will pay off."
