The attendance at Galway was down for the fourth successive day compared to 12 months ago, with a crowd of 20,368 at Ballybrit as against 25,240 last year.

The weather gods have certainly not been shining on the Galway executive this week, and persistent rain throughout the evening was an obvious deterrent to racegoers.

Not surprisingly the betting figures also took a heavy knock, with the Tote aggregate down over 20% at €590,770 compared with €745,518 last year.

The turnover in the ring made even more grim reading with a figure of €1,112,221, down over 40% from the €1,874,815 on Friday evening last year.
