Edward O’Grady unleashed a potentially useful four-year-old in the closing bumper at Roscommon as Gallant Tipp (4/1 from 6s in the ring) and Corky Carroll kept up the gallop to score.
From two furlongs out he looked home and hosed but Goodoldhonkytonk (12/1) flew to close to within a neck at the line.
“He’s never been away and he’s never been in a gallop, but he’s potentially very good,” Edward O’Grady said.
“He probably should have been out on grass, but the summer was so bad I kept him in.
“He’s a big tall four-year-old. The jockey said he got a bit lonely out in front on his own.
“Hopefully he’ll improve and might be one for the bumper at Cheltenham’s November meeting.” Reine Angevine the 4/5 favourite representing Willie and Patrick Mullins, could find no extra in the final furlong and finished third. Patrick Mullins put up a pound overweight.
