Fourth win for bargain-buy Khafaaq Khafaaq gained a fourth career win at Tipperary today as the bargain-buy returned to 'haunt' his admittedly wealthy, previous owner and win the Ballykisteen Handicap for father/son, trainer /jockey Andy and Andrew Slattery. Khafaaq today scored a half-length win over Mudlahhim, to move his career earnings to €36,207, since signing for Team Slattery for 5,000gns in July 2018. Slattery senior today reported “he is a serious horse to work at home and Johnny Sullivan and Dessie Cummings told me to buy him out of Kevin Prendergast's and we bought him for five grand. We beat his previous owner - Hamdan Al Maktoum.” Slattery added “I thought the handicapper was very hard on him for giving him 6lbs for winning a neck the last day but I felt he didn't do a tap and felt the visor might help. He is running more consistently now to the way he works. “He goes on any ground and we'll probably go for a better handicap at Listowel now and see what happens.” The race-titled 'Ballykisteen Handicap' is the townland on which the racecourse is set and the nearby golf course was recently put up for sale, with the possibility that it will be converted back to agriculture usage.
