Fountain stays on strongly under Kevin Manning© Photo Healy Racing
Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning completed a 146/1 double at Fairyhouse, as Fountain claimed the sixth race on the card, the Paul Kelly Veterinary Clinic Handicap.
Bolger and Manning were earlier successful with the easy to back 20/1 chance Sometimesadiamond and Fountain also proved pretty weak in the market, opening on-course at 9/2, touching 13/2, before going off at 6s.
Settled towards rear, the son of Pour Moi was pushed along on the outer from over two furlongs out, and appeared to have plenty to do.
However he really got going from the furlong pole, and hit the front in the closing stages, going on to score comfortably by two lengths. The Eyes Have It (5/1jfav, from 6s) had to settle for second under Chris Hayes for Andy Oliver, while Arbourfield (14/1) kept on well to take third, another half a length away for Declan McDonogh and Prunella Dobbs. Plough Boy (9/1) completed the placings a neck back in fourth, while the other joint-favourite Blairmayne was a disappointing thirteenth.
Ger Flynn, assistant trainer to Jim Bolger, said afterwards: "He jumped out okay but didn't get away quick enough and was out the back. He was travelling well but Kevin had a wall of horses in front of him early in the straight.
"He pulled out to get a clear run and came home really well.
"He's in again at Limerick tomorrow evening, and we'll see how he is in the morning."
