Jazzy Matty registered a first success since scoring at the 2023 Cheltenham festival at Wexford today, as the five-year-old landed the Traynors Of Wexford Beginners Chase for new trainer Cian Collins.

Previously successful for Gordon Elliott in March 2023's Fred Winter Hurdle at Cheltenham, Jazzy Matty was sold when forming part of his owners Caldwell Construction's sudden dispersal sale in February and today ended a poor run of form.

A course faller on chase debut last month, Jazzy Matty was today ridden patiently in rear by Jordan Gainford and having moved into fourth place at the second-last, led on the run-in, to defeat Clifftop

Jazzy Matty had started an unconsidered 14/1 chance and Collins explained "you could say he hasn't risen a gallop since he won in Cheltenham and he has been very disappointing. We bought him for €50,000 and knew the ability was there, so it was just a matter of getting it out of him.”

He added “we just said we'd fill him with confidence today, ride him for luck and it was just about getting his confidence back. Thankfully it worked out.

“We will keep it nice and handy but keep him going on the nice ground. Hopefully he will turn into a nice staying chaser next year as the further he goes the better he'll be. The horses are going well and I have a great team at home, with Denis O'Regan, Davy Condon and Ray Loftus."
