For Bill cruises home under Russell Davy Russell bounced back from his fall in the opener when guiding classy mare For Bill to a cosy victory in the mares beginners chase at Thurles. Mick Winter's stable-star was sent to the front seven from home in the 2m6f contest and the result never looked in doubt from there. Russell, who had looked set for certain victory in the opener aboard Big Secret only to crash at the last, took no chances this time as he let his mount find her feet at the final fence. The 4/9f ran down the fence slightly but had loads in hand and she never came out of third gear to record a two-length success over Bobs Display. "It was very tough out there today and Davy made her mind up for her," said Winters afterwards. "Adrian (Maguire - Winters' brother-in-law) rode her a piece of work the other day and said she was as fit as a fiddle. "She just needed to get the last day out of her system (fourth over hurdles at Leopardstown). "We'll come back here in a fortnight's time for the Grade 3 Novice Chase." Gary Carson
