Flying Scotsman arrives for another Galway win Joseph O'Brien's Flying Scotsman backed up his victory at the Galway Festival yesterday with another game success in the caulfieldindustrial.com Handicap. He took the honours yesterday by a comfortable three lengths in an extended mile and a half handicap, and today an extended mile was put in front of him. He also had cheekpieces on for this assignment. The race turned into an absolute thriller with four horses in a line across the track at the furlong pole. It would have taken a brave in-running punter to call the winner and they were still locked together with 150 yards to travel. In the closing stages Flying Scotsman really put his head forward for Wayne Lordan and grabbed the victory by half a length to reward favourite backers at 13/8. In From The Cold was a market mover this morning and finished second at 9/2. He was a nose in front of third-placed Layfayette (7/1). Assistant trainer Brendan Powell said: “He’s a versatile little sod and he’s as tough as nails. “He ate up last night and Joseph said we’d run him again. “The cheekpieces made a bit of a difference as they sharpened him up. “He’s in again at Leopardstown on Friday and we’ll just have to see about that.” Additional reporting by Eamonn Murphy
