Eleven to four favourite Firey Speech supplied Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen with their fifth winner of Galway 2016, and their first outside maiden company, when defying top-weight in the An Pucan European Breeders Fund Nursery Handicap.
The prominent racing Firey Speech could be picked out as the likely winner of this Plus 10 seven furlong race from a fair way out, and he came home by two lengths and a short-head from Sir Edwin Landseer and Sir Dreamalot
Moyglare Stud Farm's Street Cry colt, a six furlong maiden winner at Naas, headed the pace-setting Sir Dreamalot over a furlong out and he was soon clear.
"He was very professional today and hopefully there is a bit more to come from him. He found a bit, he found another gear, and that's the difference between winning and losing," commented Smullen.
"He has improved from the last day and another furlong was no harm to him. He did well, it was a competitive little nursery.
"We were going hard, so he did well to sit up there on the pace and keep going to the line. It was a very good performance by him."
