Fillies Maiden double for Harrington & Berry Jessica Harrington & Fran Berry completed a Fillies Maiden double at Cork this afternoon as they took the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden over a mile with the well supported favourite (11/8 into 9/10 on track) Absolute Crackers (adding to the victory of Liberating earlier on the card). The daughter of Giant's Causeway ran four times last season and finished second on three of those starts. Having finished just over four lengths seventh behind Tiffilia on her debut at Naas in August she then finished second to Buffalo Billy at Tipperary also in August. She ran on strongly to take second behind Seanie in the valuable Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes at Fairyhouse in September before finishing four and a half lengths second in the Listed Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs Stakes behind Homecoming Queen at the Curragh in October. Winning rider Fran Berry was determined not to finish in the runner-up spot again aboard the chestnut filly as he led from the break. The pair were joined briefly approaching straight but kept on well from over a furlong out to record a comfortable two and a quarter length victory. 9/2 shot Teofolina ran well to take second for double seeking Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning while the Kieran Cotter trained Oonagh belied her odds of 66/1 running a cracker to finish third on her debut a further length and a quarter back under Sam James. Winning trainer Jessica Harrington said afterwards: "She deserved to win it and she did everything we wanted her to do. She is crying out for further and will run next in the Salsabil Stakes (Listed) a 3yo race at Navan." (DM & TW)
