The Ted Walsh trained, Katie Walsh partnered Oscars Den bridged a near four year gap between wins when landing the St Johann Ski Resort Tirol Handicap Hurdle at Navan today.
The son of Oscar won his first three racecourse starts in 2013 but was absent from action, through injury, between April 2014 until his return, and debut, for trainer Walsh at Limerick last March.
Today the well backed winner (8/1 this morning in to 4/1) won on his fifth attempt for Walsh when arriving with a well timed challenge, having led at the final flight, and scoring a length and three parts success over Lex Talionis
Walsh senior wasn’t present and afterwards Katie Walsh remarked “he's not getting any younger but he's a lovely horse and I'm delighted for the owners (Zorka Wentworth) more so than anything else.
“He's had his problems but he ran well with me in Tipperary and ran over two-and-a-half in Punchestown the last day in a competitive race and we thought maybe two back around here might suit him.
“It's all paid off - it wasn't a great race, and he won by a length-and-three-quarters, but it happened today so it's great. We'll take every day as it comes with him and see.
“It's a small team and we also had a point-to-point winner today (Batcio at Ballinaboola) so that's lovely and that would do any Sunday.”
