Four-timer for Ronan Whelan at Wexford© Photo Healy Racing
Ronan Whelan dominated proceedings at Wexford this afternoon, and the reigning champion apprentice completed a career best 107/1 four-timer, all for his boss Jim Bolger, when driving Star Power home in the finale.
The rider/trainer combination, already successful with Morga Something Graceful and Irish Bulletin completed the four-timer as Star Power stayed on strongly over the two miles of the Gorey Rated Race.
The well-backed 2/1 favourite was hard driven entering the straight but responded gamely to head the front-running Toretto inside the final furlong for a length and three quarters verdict.
Manuka held every chance but could find no extra another half a length back in third.
A delighted Whelan said, “I can’t believe it. I’d like to thank the boss as he’s very good to put me up on some many, and it’s much appreciated. This fellow travelled well, and he really stays out the trip well.”
The Monasterevin native is now on the 15 winner mark for the season, five adrift of Connor King in this year’s apprentice title race.
