1-2 favourite Valain looked to have made a decisive move when scooting clear after the third last in the two-mile contest, but Paddy Flood managed to get Balakan into contention at the last.
A slick leap put Michael Halford's 11-2 chance in front after the last and he kept on nicely to register a length success.

Barry Geraghty set a steady gallop on the -1 chance, and after taking a long look over his shoulder before the turn for home, he kicked clear and Gerard Keane's mare went on to beat Happy Reunion by nine lengths.
Leonard Whitmore's hurdling debutant Glacial Promise (33-1) had to work hard to spring a surprise in the second division of the Greenogue Maiden Hurdle under Sean Flanagan.< Rocket Boy looked to have a chance of reeling in the winner, but he dug deep close home to repel the 5-4 favourite and win by four-and-a-half lengths.
