Expensive point-to-pointer Mahon's Way (3/1) won on hurdles debut for Gold Cup-winning connections today, landing Naas' Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle for Cheveley Park Stud, jockey Rachael Blackmore and trainer Henry De Bromhead.

Carrying the same colours as A Plus Tard, Mahon's Way was a £360,000 purchase following a point-to-point win for Denis Hogan last November and today beat 13 rivals, staying strongly for a five and a half lengths win from Prince Palace

Blackmore and De Bromhead had earlier won with Robcour's Slade Steel with the trainer reporting “he’s (Mahon's Way) a lovely horse and Alex Elliott bought him last year after he won his point-to-point. He came highly recommended and does everything well.

“He went through that ground but I’d say he’d have a preference for nicer. It’s tough work out there and you would think he will get further (than today's 2m3f).”
