A Gordon Elliott treble was completed on the evening when Glan (5/2 favourite) triumphed under Jamie Codd in the concluding Follow Kilbeggan Racecourse On Instagram INH Flat Race.

After wins for Curlew Hill and Malone Road in either split of the opening maiden hurdle, Elliott was worried about the ground for Glan, a beaten market-leader at Fairyhouse on a heavy surface last December.

With the hood left off this time Jamie Codd was mindful to stay out in search of the less chopped up terrain, but the gambled-on Il Courra tried to kick away from before the straight.

Owned by J P McManus’ daughter-in-law Anne Marie, and bred by his son Kieran, Glan showed a nice turn of pace inside the final furlong to upstage the well-bred Il Courra close home for a length and three quarters win.

The pair were nine lengths clear of the third, Thirtyfourstitches

“She’s not a bad mare and would probably want a bit better ground. Jamie kept her a bit wide,” said Elliott.

“She will probably go to Down Royal in a few weeks for a mares’ winners bumper.”
