Brothers Joey and Gordon Elliott teamed up to take the Troytown November 21st Handicap Hurdle as Cayo Levantado defied a seven month lay-off in this two mile and seven furlongs stamina test.
Joey Elliott was replacing Keith Donoghue (foot injury), and the 12/1 chance was sent to the front two out before overcoming a mistake at the last and holding on by three quarters of a length, with Current Recession another four lengths back in third.
Gordon Elliott said, “He's improved a good bit from last season, and we'll probably aim him for something similar at Leopardstown over Christmas. He will go chasing at some point this season.”
7/2 favourite Model County Lass could only manage 14th but was found to coughing afterwards.
