Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy landed a quick-fire double when Amir Kabir (15/8) made a successful transition to flights in the Larry O'Farrelly Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon.

The five-year-old gelding had three Flat victories in Britain for Roger Charlton in the formbook and also landed a charity race in Punchestown for Elliott.

he travelled into contention on the outer at the third last as he pursued Hisnameis Mrdevitt who attempted to make all over this extended 1m7f.

He took a fractional lead at the second last but was clumsy in jumping it. He was still ahead of Hisnameis Mrdevitt at the last and was driven out in the final 150 yards to prevail by two and a quarter lengths.

Runner-up Hisnameis Mrdevitt was the 6/4 favourite and he was 14 lengths clear of Freddie Robdal (3/1).

Kennedy said: “He did it well, he jumped a bit novicey but he'll learn plenty from that.

“His ability probably got him through and hopefully he can progress from that.

“He's well able to jump, he just needs to put it all together and he'll be fine.”
