Granny On Fire eased to a nine length success, as she took the Burleigh Accountants 3yo Handicap under Shane Gray for trainer Michael Mulvany.

After getting off the mark on the twelfth time of asking at Bellewstown last month, the daughter of Trade Fair just failed on her next start at Dundalk, finishing a nose second to Liberty To Rock.

Back on the turf this evening, and upped in trip to a mile and one, she settled in sixth before making good headway on the outer after halfway.

She improved to lead approaching the straight, soon stretching clear, staying on strongly in the final furlong to record an easy success. Stynes kept on to take second at 8/1 under Gary Carroll for John McConnell, while Glen Ginnie was two and a half lengths back in third under Rory Cleary for Willie McCreery at 14/1.

The winner was the 15/8 market leader with Paddy Power this morning, but she opened on track at 9/4, going off at 11/4 second choice of punters. Desiderata was the one for money, and after opening at 13/2 with Paddy Power this morning, she opened on-course at just 7/2, before going off the 2/1 favourite.

The Joanna Morgan trained filly never really looked like winning, and she finished a disappointing seventh under Pat Smullen.

Michael Mulvany said afterwards: "I’m a little bit surprised she won as well as she did as it looked a competitive little race.

"She missed ten days work since her last run, as she got a kick out in the paddock. If anything it probably freshened her up.

"She is in again at Tramore on Thursday in a handicap over a mile and a half, and she might go there but it will depend on what the handicapper does.

"It is hard to know how good she is, but she seems to be improving."
