Downthecellar registered a first winner for UK owner Christine Plumbly at Limerick today as the Edward O'Grady trained and bred seven year old won the Broadford Handicap Chase under jockey Darragh O'Keeffe.
Out of O'Grady's Grade 3 hurdle winning mare Miss Nomer, Downthecellar had failed to win in eight previous starts but today came good when proving a length and a half too strong for runner-up Optum
It was four-time Champion Trainer O'Grady's first winner of the new season and afterwards he reported "that win has given me enormous pleasure and there'll be a little party in Derbyshire where Mrs (Christine) Plumbly lives.
“This is her first horse and her first winner; her husband is probably right now, going down to the cellar! He was aptly named and I'm delighted for them.
"They have been patient with the horse but he jumps well and likes good ground."
