Thomas Dowling rode his first winner when Kennedys Mor landed the Costellos Tavern Handicap Hurdle at Tipperary.
The twenty-two-year-old, from Baltinglass in County Wicklow, joined Kennedys Mor's trainer, John Murphy, from Willie McCreery, six weeks ago.
Not long back after breaking his hand in three places, Dowling has experience riding as an amateur and Ruaidhri Tierney is acting as his agent.
Dowling's mount Kennedys Mor (25/1) got the better of the Davy Russell on Dark Outsider in a bunch finish – a length separating the pair at the line.
Murphy no doubt will be hoping Kennedys Mor's win is a sign of things to come with his flat string. His Avenue Montaigne finished third in the Listed race earlier.
The Cork trainer said: "Hopefully he'll go for something similar and he'll go chasing sooner rather than later. The owner is John Kennedy, and his wife, from Clonakilty.
"Thomas Dowling is a good lad and hopefully this will get him going. He rode a very patient race."
B.R. Dalton, rider of Raheenwood trained by Colin Kidd, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount broke down and pulled up.
D.J. Condon, rider of Pumped Up Kicks trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran flat.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Pumped Up Kicks, trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be coughing post race.
