There were doubles for Nathan Crosse and John McConnell as Gatsby Cap sprang a 28/1 shock in the second division of the 47-65 contest at Dundalk. Chancey Approach set a strong pace in the mile contest, for horses that hadn't been placed on their previous start, but faded as Tara Power and Gatsby Cap came to fight it out over a furlong from home.
The latter got on top close home for Crosse to post a half-length win over the 7/2 favourite, who had missed the kick.
It was a fifth career success for Gatsby Cap and a first since June 2021. McConnell had also won the first leg of the race with Cousin Shay while Crosse had won the fillies maiden on Beautiful Dawn
The winning rider said:- "John was filling me with confidence. He said he had a little blow the last day, and going a mile and a-quarter wasn't ideal.
"Back to a mile today and down to a nice mark, he's a lovable sort and always gets his turn. Hopefully, he can progress and might get another one or two out of him again.
"Thanks to John for giving me the leg up. His horses are starting to find their form again."
