Given Wings was the well backed winner of the opening ML Lynch Civil Engineering Maiden Hurdle at Killarney today, scoring on his return to action and first start for trainer Henry De Bromhead.

Runner-up on career debut at Leopardstown in March, the son of Caliphet was today having his first run for 139 days and justified 7/4 favouritism (from 3/1) in beating Babylon Beach by three and a half lengths.

Afterwards winning jockey Darragh O'Keeffe stated “he had a good run in a maiden at Leopardstown and he was coming back down in class a bit here. He was a bit keen but jumped super and kept going well.

“He likes that good ground and while I'm not sure what the plan will be, he is a nice horse.”
