David Garrick a welcome winner for Harty Eddie Harty was a happy man after the Millstreet Handicap at Cork as David Garrick gave him his first winner of the Flat campaign. Mark Gallagher did the steering on this Zoffany gelding, who has promised to deliver a win for some time now. The three-year-old shed his maiden tag at the seventh time of asking, fending off Yafordadoe by a length and three parts, to justify the confidence of those that backed him from 12/1 into 9/1. “We have always thought a bit of him. We were a bit worried about the ground but he handled it well,” said Harty. “The horses have been running well all season but that’s the first winner and it means a lot for morale to get that one on the board. “A mile looks his trip. Mark thought he would get a mile and a quarter and probably if he was easier on himself at the Curragh he would have got it. “He’s turned a corner this year and is running very consistently. Hopefully he will progress and there will be a few more days in him. “I’m delighted for David Nagle as well as he’s been a pal for many years and it’s great to train a winner for him.” (AM & EM)
