Danny Mullins teamed up with his uncle Willie to take the BoyleSports Novice Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse, although Mt Leinster did have some good fortune on his side. Kalkas set a good pace in this €50,000 extended two miles event but was headed early in the straight by both Mt Leinster and top-weight Grange Walk
The latter held a slight advantage when falling at the second last and this left Mt Leinster with a golden opportunity to follow up a beginners’ chase win at Leopardstown last month.
The 7/2 shot kept on well on the run-in to beat Bold Emperor by five lengths with Sil Ver Klass a further length-and-a-half adrift in third.
Willie Mullins said, “We were probably a little fortunate but they are there to be jumped.
“It was a nice race to win considering he didn’t jump as well as he can jump. He can improve when he gets better at his jumping.
“There won’t be too much for him summer jumping over that trip unless he goes out in distance.
“The Galway Plate is a possibility but he’s very keen and likes to get on with the job.”
