Cromwell enhances juvenile record with another 33/1 winner Trainer Gavin Cromwell scored with consecutive debutante juvenile runners today, as An Chorr Dubh was his second to defy odds of 33/1 since Wednesday, when landing Gowran's Irish EBF Auction Series Fillies Maiden. Cromwell - whose three career Royal Ascot juvenile runners have yielded Queen Mary Stakes and Chesham Stakes wins with the other finishing second last month, was successful with outsider Diego Ventura at Naas on Wednesday and today debuted An Chorr Dubh. Ridden by Robert Whearty and racing with just 8st 5lb, the Coulsty-filly behind the leaders and quickened past 4/5 favourite Canto Della Terra inside the final furlong to score by 1.25 lengths. Whearty reported “it was a good performance and she's a nice filly. She can be very forward-going, even at home so today we took her down to the start nice and steady. She was a great ride throughout the race. “I got there and she had a little bit of a look and she was plenty green. It was seven (furlongs) there and she hit the line well. She travels really strong but it wasn't like she was going to run away or anything like that. “Gavin has plenty done with his two-year-olds and they are all running well.” Quotes from Gary Carson
