Creggs Pipes gives Slattery first Group 2 win Killenaule trainer Andy Slattery recorded his biggest success as Creggs Pipes made all for a convincing win in the Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh. Persistent rain throughout the day left conditions yielding to soft, and earlier odds of 5/1 were trimmed to 3/1 by the off. The Rip Van Winkle mare bounced out of stalls in this mile Group 2 event, and really poured it on under Declan McDonogh inside the final furlong. She came right away to beat Opal Tiara by three and three quarter lengths, with Turret Rocks another length and a half away in third. Slattery said, “She was in season yesterday morning but Evan Arkwright (Commercial Manager at the Curragh) rang me just before 10am to say there was only four in the race and we said we’d take our chance. “Everything was in her favour today with the ground and the trip. That is my biggest winner, and we’ll go to Royal Ascot now for the Duke Of Cambridge.”
