Cosmic Rock gained a first career win at Limerick today as the Eoin McCarthy trained seven year old landed the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle under jockey Tom Kelly.

The son of Arctic Cosmos, who returned following a year-long absence last September, today chased down early clear-leader I Dont Get It late on the run-in, eventually scoring a three parts of a length win.

Afterwards west Limerick-based McCarthy reported “I'm delighted for both the horse and the owner. He is a horse who has had his issues and Tony (Carey, Listowel-based owner) to be fair to him, has left everything up to me and has had as much patience with him.

“Tony is with the yard a long time and I'm thrilled he has won for him more than anything.

“I've loved this horse since I bought him as a store but we haven't had a straight run with him. We'll see how he comes out of this.”
