Ger Lyons’ stable jockey Colin Keane was on Eglish (1/1 into 4/6) but that filly had to give best to Glenburnie colt Corvus Glaive under Billy Lee in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Claiming Race at Dundalk.
Blinkered first-time on outing number three the Ronnie Boland owned and bred was back in trip for this seven furlong assignment.
The son of former Lyons performer, Cappella Sansevero (now on duty at Starfield Stud in County Westmeath), Corvus Glaive raced in mid-division here.
He was switched right two furlongs out, and ridden he made headway between horses to lead a furlong out.
From there he kept on well inside the final furlong to beat the aforementioned Eglish by three lengths.
“He's done it well. He probably will be claimed and if he is, best of luck to somebody,” said Lyons’ brother Shane in the aftermath.
“He's raw, he's just on his third run, and we threw him in and handicapped him ourselves to give him a chance.
“He's done what we thought he could do, win a race of that calibre.
“If he's not claimed we'll probably geld him and have a bit of fun with him in that grade, but if he's claimed best of luck to somebody else.”
Corvus Glaive was claimed by Richard O'Brien on behalf on owner David Haddrell to be trained in France by M Montfort.
The Stewards interviewed G.P. Brouder, rider of Briseuse De Coeur concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he had used his whip above what is permitted by rule, but stated that some were for corrective purposes as his mount hung both ways in the straight.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the rider had used his whip on at least one occasion for corrective purposes and therefore took no further action.
