Glen Beg came through to collar Somethingwonderful and Drumlee and grab the spoils in the two mile handicap hurdle in Navan.
Drumlee, who was out to follow up on a course and distance win just over two weeks ago, cut out the running under David Casey. The 7/4 favourite had Somethingwonderful (3/1) on his shoulder throughout.
As the front two made their way over the third and second last it very much looked like a match between the pair. However, Glen Beg was starting to stay on and was third jumping the last. She kept on stoutly to deprive Somethingwonderful who had battled past Drumlee on the run-in. Kevin Sexton got the mare up by a length and a half at 11/1.
Liz Doyle trains the seven-year-old and she reported: “She didn’t stay the two miles two the last day in Leopardstown and it was a case of back to the Naas tactics of dropping her on the line again.
“Kevin gave her a great ride as she’s not the easiest and a bit of a madam although in fairness she does seem to be getting a bit easier.”
Glen Beg’s owner/breeder Ian Williams is from Kilkenny. She won a two mile handicap hurdle in Naas by a neck in mid-January.
