With Front View (temperature) out, Mark Walsh switched to Cayd Boy and he took the County Wexford Vintners Maiden Hurdle for local in-form handler Liz Doyle.
Now owned by J P McManus Cayd Boy (7/4 into 11/10 favourite) is two from two after debuting with a success in a Limerick bumper in March.
There was plenty of grief in this extended two miler but the successful French-bred avoided the trouble to convincingly account for Friary Rock and Coolbane Boy by four and three parts of a length and one and three parts of a length.
“I've always loved him and hopefully he can go on,” said the Kitestown handler.
“He needs to step up and improve as he's quite babyish still. His jumping was a bit babyish as well.
“I think he can be nice, whether he is a proper horse I don't know but it's a lovely start. He handles soft ground very well.
“I'm very pleased and that's what I had hoped he'd do today. It'll be an interesting journey with him the next day.
“We'll step up and his jumping will have to shape up a little bit now to take on more experienced novices in the next month or so. I'll be guided by Frank (Berry, McManus racing manager) on where he wants to go with him.
“Everything is good with him at home. He doesn't get tired, he's a lovely sleepy horse and a great ride as well.
“He just woke up with him after the second last today and he's something to look forward to.
“He jumps very well. He was a little bit childish today but he's entitled to be as he's never jumped those hurdles before, we have the Easifix at home.
“I don't know how good he is but we'll find out in the next six months. It's a nice start.”
