Tim Carroll completed a first and last race 12/1 double at Clonmel when getting Scouting Party home in an exciting three-horse finish to the concluding two and a half miles Comeragh Beginners Chase.
The well-backed 9/2 chance (7/1 this morning) gave his rivals hope when meeting the last wrong but dug deep on the run-in to beat Sea Stallion (12/1) by a neck with Souvenir Royal (16/1) the same distance back in third.
Winning trainer Michael Mulvany said: “He's a good horse whose had his problems, and is finished now for the season. He's a real Troytown Chase horse for the future.”
Carroll, 19-year-old brother of champion apprentice Gary, was earlier on the mark aboard Memories Of Milan in the 2m4f maiden hurdle. He's been with Noel Meade for three years and was recording his second double having previously achieved the feat on the polytrack at Dundalk.
