Stellium was the well supported winner of the Dan Cowman Memorial Maiden at Tramore today, as the Sheila Lavery trained gelding completed an opening races double under jockey Gary Carroll.

Seventh on debut at the Galway festival last month, the son of Elzaam was initially a 16/1 chance this morning, was backed to 8/1 by the opening show, and eventually returned 5/1.

Stellium quickened clear of 82-rated Lusaka in the final furlong to beat that runner-up by three and a half lengths.

Carroll, successful in the half-hour earlier opener on his only other ride today White Pepper later stated "Sheila liked him and said he ran a lovely race first time out at Galway in an amateur riders race. He was very green that day and he was very green for around here.

“He didn't do much right but he has an engine, he picked up well and got to the line well, he won with his ears pricked. He rode like a nice horse and I think he will improve again."
